For some reason, I thought that getting to the halfway point for US States visited would be invigorating. I thought that I would hit 25 and be even more excited than when I started out on my travel journey.
Bright-eyed and ready for more of the world… or so I thought. I chose Las Vegas, Nevada, to be my 25th state because I thought it would be a great choice for a halfway mark. All of the lights and fast pace, how can one go wrong? And it was a great choice, I’m not saying it wasn’t, but now that I’m back home, the excitement is gone.
Twenty-five doesn’t feel as magical anymore. And for some strange reason, I don’t feel like reaching 50 will make that much more of a difference. I feel like once I’ve visited all of the US states, I’ll feel the same as I do now.
Now, I’m not saying this to say that I’m giving up on my travel journey, because I absolutely am not giving up. (There’s so much more of this beautiful world that I would like to experience.) However, I’m not entirely sure how I’ll feel after I’ve accomplished the goals I’ve set for this journey.
Perhaps this is why I rarely set goals that I can actually achieve. I always set them bigger, and never really have a ceiling, so once I hit a goal, I level it up. I always keep something to strive for, if that makes sense.
I don’t know. I just know that the excitement is gone.
But! As my well-traveled centenarian travel bestie would say, “Just keep trucking, baby traveler,” and that’s what I’ll do! The planning of State No. 26 will start soon.
I look forward to seeing what the rest of these US states have to offer!
